The Songs of Dzintra is the story of a doll who sings and is passed down through three generations of daughters as their lives change due to the experience of war and migration.
Dzintra’s name means amber, the national gemstone of Latvia. In Latvian folklore amber is believed to be tears of the Sun Goddess Saule.
Like the golden-yellow warmth of amber, Dzintra’s songs light the way across new landscapes and language while also ensuring connection to ancestral lineage.
The Songs of Dzintra is a picture storybook suitable for children age 5-9 plus adults of any age.

The Songs of Dzintra - Written and Illustrated by Zenta Zebergs
"Zenta Zebergs' The Songs of Dzintra brings complex cultural stories to life in a way children can understand. Through the journey of a child's toy passed from mother to daughter, the story weaves together different times and different landscapes, blending Latvian folklore, the refugee experience, intergenerational love, and respect for Australia's First Nations.
The author's beautiful illustrations, reminiscent of amber in its many forms, enhance both the charm and accessibility of this children's book."
